📺 Fourth Broadcast 📺

Gooood afternoon, Drifters!

Just dropping a little note giving a big 'thank you' for the incredible turnout for movie nights! It's my intention to keep them going for as long as I can for our little road trip, as I enjoy catching a good movie as much as anyone else! As always: You can Trust Me with your entertainment!

...But that aside, I've heard a few mumblings and rumblings about a 'shark monster' seen pressing its nose to the Convoy's windows and generally hovering over any Tom, Dick and Harry, and I want to set the record straight.

[A throat clear. Then, all composure sails completely out the window:]

That's my puppy! His name is Shok.wav. Isn't he great!? He knows so many tricks and is smart as a whip! He's not fully grown yet- not sure about max size, as he's the only one of his kind- but he eats like a pig and doesn't seem to be slowing down at all!

If you see him, just wave at him, y'know? He likes people, but he's sensitive. Don't hurt his feelings. Lastly, just ask before you pet, though. We have a routine for it so he doesn't get overstimulated; he gets mouthy.

What's a good intro? Welcome to Etraya? Has the despair set in yet? Anyway. For those who haven't met me, my name is Dr. Robert Romano, I'm the de facto Hospital Director here.

De facto means no one's told me I'm not.

Every so often I post to ask the network if there are any other medical professionals around because I'm one surgeon from a non-magical world, and you people drop in with fairy flus and growing tentacles diseases I can't damn well fix.

So, if you're a doctor or a healer, drop in. We'll have an interview, if you're not an obvious psychopath and get a pass on ethics I'll give you an office, we got 21st century Earth medical tech and a wing to treat magical maladies.

If you're in need of a doctor, also drop in, I'll be nicer to you than to the first group.

If you're neither, what are you even doing here? Get a job. Go bag some groceries, the bots keep squishing my bread :(

Mission 13 Wrap-Up

Mission 13 Wrap-Up

We're trying something new with this post as a result of a few pieces of feedback we've gotten. Let us know what you think and if this is helpful! In the future, this would go up at the conclusion of missions in a more timely fashion.

Major Events on Mission 13
  • Characters were generally successful in documenting Mesa, and some brought back seeds and biological samples
  • Anyone who explored a research or terraforming plant could have discovered some substantiating information about the decline of the universe
  • No one pursued finding a way to save the residents of Mesa, so they are doomed along with the world itself
  • Dante and Vergil sparred and wrecked some grasslands, leaving a small canyon behind
Mission Forecast
Handy link to the calendar. Note that plans are always subject to change based on player interest and mod availability!

  • March - lighter tone, taking place in Etraya on-planet, a few darker options
  • May - heavy, serious, meta-plot related; off-world; characters can limit exposure to intense themes but can't avoid entirely without a mission pass (AC reward)
Until Next Time
Players are always welcome (and strongly encouraged!) to develop Etraya in between missions. Want more societal structure? Think your character needs a job? Go for it! Use this post to comment below with what your plans are for the time between missions, and see if others are interested.

We'd like to highlight that there's been a lot of activity at the Louvre, and building that up as a cultural hub might be of interest to multiple characters.

Historically, we've also had several players come to us between missions with plots they want to dig into via our plotting post! This included digging into Aurora's origins as well as asking what they could discover about Echo or the game plot as a whole via exploring around Etraya during their mission downtime. We always want to encourage our playerbase to come to us if they want something meatier to dig into, and we'll do our best to build something suitable to what you're looking for!

Genre Poll
What are you interested in seeing next? This is essentially a vibe check -- if the player base is swinging in a different direction than what we planned, we're open to changing those plans!

Robo T-Rex Name Suggestion Thread

It's official. We may as a group effort tame one (1) Mecha T-Rex for the Convoy.

However inevitably we will need a name. That is where you guys come in! In game? Yes. TDM Participants? It's only fair! If you have a suggestion for what the name will eventually be in a Meta/OOC sense, place it here.

Afterward a poll will be made to determine the favorite name. Or a lottery. Whichever you guys deem fair.

So!

Put your name suggestion! (One per!) and Whether [Poll] or [Lottery] is your preferred selection method!

MARCH PLOTTING POST

Hello Drifters, we’re closing in on the endgame, but there’s a few more twists and turns left to go… And an entire series of warped lands before approaching Nirvana’s gates!

This event will double as our second to last TDM and will go up on the comms at around the 6th or 7th. (There is some final coding that needs to take place before the event itself is ready to go!) As such, the following will be available to current and new players:

The landscape itself is a mishmash of chaotic elements and ruins. Wild aether courses through the landscape and can replenish, burn, or impart angel or demon traits depending on the time of day. Ruined temples of the Silver Tears also dot the landscape, as do strange radio spires.

…And there is also the issue of a pack of robot T-rexes prowling the landscape. They blast the doctrine of the Steel Wardens from their speakers, and try to savage anything remotely monstrous looking. They are also quite formidable, requiring groups of Drifters or a monster fusion from January to properly bring them down. (Fusion itself can be achieved thanks to how warped the land is with moonshards, aether, and the like.)

It’s worth noting that people who got on the bad side of the Steel Wardens during the radio transmission from several months ago may find themselves also singled out by the Mecha T-rexes, and as such are going to need help from other people fight back. (This is player discretion based: while they can’t solo a mecha t-rex, they can also lay low behind the Convoy shields to escape their notice.)

And that is our route planned for the month! We hope you enjoy this event, and feel free to plan in the comments below!

text | un: finch | subject: notes left by 'scylla'

I have collected all the notes left by the individual Scylla after Mission 012 that I could find available and uploaded them to the shared data repository.¹

According to Ms. Won in her post here, there are 10 in total, meaning that one note remains missing. If you are in possession of this note, please contribute it to the data repository. These notes are the biggest credible lead on getting to the truth of things that I've seen in my time here; I cannot emphasize enough how imperative it is that you share the missing document.

There are two sides to these pages, one side being narrative journal entries and the other complex higher-order math. I have been working with Accelerator (un: accelerator) on deciphering what we can of the mathematics, and we have drawn the following conclusion with reasonable certainty:² this is a mathematical representation of the inevitable decline and resulting destruction of the fabric of reality. In other words, it demonstrates proof of Echo's claim that worlds are falling apart from natural causes.

Based on my own knowledge of 20th century Earth scientific discoveries, this is plausible. The universe is infinitely expanding and at an accelerating rate, and though we have a poor understanding of the eventual consequences of that, that is a measurable fact.³ It appears whoever took these notes was working through the implications on their own with far more advanced instrumentation available than what is familiar to either Accelerator or myself.

Reviewing the text of the pages leads me to several further conclusions:

    (1) These were most likely written by Echo themselves as they came to the mathematical conclusion I just described.
    (2) The author demonstrates sincere remorse and went to incredible lengths to attempt to resolve this problem, but it was beyond their capabilities. If these are written by Echo, then they have become some kind of god-like being in their pursuit of saving worlds, but that still was not enough.
    (3) Ultimately, they placed their hopes in the idea that if they could buy time, someone else could find a solution, whether it be a mysterious blacked-out name referenced in the entries or someone from a different world entirely.
    (4) It is possible that our task to prove the 'worth' of our worlds is being measured on this scale, that of how likely our societies are to be able to address this problem, making it a pragmatic determination and not one based on any inherent qualities of 'worthiness' otherwise.
    (5) The time scale on which this is all taking place is likely literally astronomical.

Furthermore, reports of conversations had with Scylla indicates it is highly likely that Scylla personally knows Echo. He stated in one conversation that the math was intended for our receipt and would have been provided by Aurora, but the journal entries were not, and he deliberately intercepted them and ensured their distribution throughout Etraya. Scylla intimated to Ms. Won that the pages reveal something about what he and Aurora are cursed not to speak of. What that might be, I'm unsure.

Most importantly, Scylla provided verbal confirmation to Ms. Won that he also believed the worlds are unraveling. All of these facts combined, I think we must take that as true going forward.

Please share in the comments any other inferences you feel could be reasonably drawn, and we may discuss further.

¹This was posted about recently, but if you haven't seen it, there is now a data repository available for communal use. It is maintained by Sunday (un: sunday) and myself (un: finch). Please contact us if you have any questions on how to make use of it.
²Certainty would, of course, increase with the final note included in our analysis.
³For further reading on the topic, I suggest Barbara Ryden's Introduction to Cosmology published in 2003. It is available at the library.

State of the Game

STATE OF THE GAME

Hello, Etrayans!

Here is a summary of recent updates to the game, as well as some requests for feedback!

Activity Rewards
  • The Activity page was revised, and a new method for acquiring reward points was added that utilizes a written summary instead of tracking number of comments.

  • Adding locations as an AC reward was removed, but you can still renovate existing locations for 30 points.
Locations
  • The Locations page has had a map update.

  • After a character has been in the game for at least six months, the player can request a free location for them, one per lifetime of the character in the game. We started tracking these requests in January, so everyone has started from a clean slate there.

  • On the upcoming intro CR meme for this app round, we will be including a new thread where people can advertise locations their characters frequent. This is a way of encouraging people to make use of the locations already in game, and to plan out chance encounters or assumed CR as desired.
Missions
  • Please continue to leave mission suggestions on this post or anywhere else to us to your heart's content! We do save these and have used several of them in the past.

Update as of 2/23/26: There is now a Mission Suggestions page where you can direct these to!

  • The game has gotten much bigger than originally anticipated, and we've been experimenting with the mission formats to hopefully accommodate a variety of play styles. We started adding exploratory leads and optional meta plot involved side quests in missions, and we're interested in your feedback on how that's gone!

  • We would also like to invite people to come to us with offers to run missions or events of your own on the Mission Suggestions page. This can be an IC effort or just one you as the player are volunteering for. Although we can't guarantee we'll take up every offer, we know we have some motivated, capable, and creative players in game, and we want to open up the idea!
Meta Plot
  • The Story Thus Far page has been updated.

  • Also on the Story Thus Far page, all of the previously distributed notes pertaining to the meta plot are available here out of character, and thanks to the addition of an in-character data repository, several are available for player characters to view.

  • We encourage players to come to us if you're interested in exploring the meta plot further, and would love some feedback on how to balance plot within the overall pace of the game! Is there enough meta plot for you right now? Too much? Not enough? Let us know down below!
If you prefer to provide your feedback in private, we have our mod contact post which is always open to players.

Finally, this month marks Etraya's 2-year anniversary and we want to thank everyone for making this game what it is! We've come so much farther than we ever thought we would. We all as mods appreciate all of you so much.

UN: Aerith » Video

[Aerith could text and maybe she ordinarily would, but given that this is her very first time making use of Etraya's network, she decides she would rather own all of her words and let them be attached to a face.

So on she pops making a peace sign with her right hand just outside the Louvre in the Jardin des Tuileries.]

Helllooooo!

I've been here for a little bit, but this is the first time I'm giving a real hello. I'm Aerith, but I might have told you my name was 'Ree' or 'Ri' or some other variation of it. I sold flowers back home and maybe I might want to do that here, too? I'm not sure yet. It's nice to meet you!

A bit ago I was one of the people who came from Pollux and had been living with the fae for a few months, if you can believe it. I haven't exactly reunited with everyone who I had met while I was there, but I'd like to if you decided to come back with everyone else.

I also wanted to say thank you to everyone who was worried about me not making my way back. As you can see, I'm in one piece and one hundred percent here!

[She opts for not making any commentary on any of the dreams she had and the various people she might have reached out to in said dreams even before they found her on Pollux. That may just have to remain another one of those unspoken secrets that Aerith seems to carry.

She moves her video to show the gardens off.]

If you like flowers, you should come visit the Louvre. They aren't mine, but the very nice man who curates the museum is letting me help take care of them! Please come by and say 'hello;' they'd like that very much!

[When the camera moves back onto her, she lifts a finger.]

With that out of the way—I'm actually looking for someone. Back on Pollux there was a very nice man named Jean-Napoleon who said he was going to show me some more gardens here. I'm officially stating that I'm hunting you down and I would like to collect on this invitation!

And of course, I'd be very thankful for anyone who can point me in his direction!

[But also, you know, please come to the gardens—and her church—and say 'hi' to the flowers.]
